He is IDead,I am ISad

Last night I was thinking about Shakespeare's famous quote in the 'Twelf Night';"Be not afraid of greatness:Some are born great, others achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust unto them". I had one person in mind who have achieved greatness, and was looking for the other two.I asked my best friend whom he would recommend(in my Country).I am not sure we even got the conversation going! But as usual, death has answered another of life's query! Let us apply this quote to some of the world's greatest who have left us in 2011. Born Great- Steve Jobs  1955-2011 On Monday 3'rd October 2011,Thomas Cook, the new Apple CEO launched the new IPhone 4S,the first since his appointment. Many Investors were disappointed since they were expecting radical changes on the new IPhone. Some did not even approve of Cook's public appearance(or is it his name ,'Cook',that sounds ridiculous compared to 'Jobs'!!)This saw Apple loose more than 3% of its...

Ujinga ni.......

Everything in Kenya seems to be changing so fast;so fast and furiously too. Kenyans are changing too with changing times. The last time i visited Nairobi,i had a feeling that Paris and other big cities would look like a big joke alongside Nairobi:the beautiful mushrooming up-class suburbs, the numerous car models one observes snarling up in a traffic jam,the sophisticated young men and women, business executives ,the mobile phones and other flashy electronic devices that still remain luxury in developed countries too;the list is just endless! Having stayed out for only two years,i looked the old one out in almost everything;take my phone, for example.I am one lady who believes that a mobile phone's work is to make and receive calls. It therefore doesn't matter whether it still croaks like a frog or hisses like a snake to alert me of an incoming call.My Kenyan friends were disappointed on seeing what i had in the name of a phone, given that i now claim to be living in one of the mode...

She is a lady;an endLESS lady!

Jenny was my former schoolmate 10 years ago.The last time i saw her,ten years ago, she was just a cute ambitious teenage girl. She came from a well up family and everybody in the school wished to be in her shoes. When i met her outside a Perfume shop last week, she seemed to have changed a lot;i could barely recognize her:How fast 10 years can change a lady! She was wearing a sleeve LESS dress, looking great in her petite figure. As we were catching up about life,i realised that she complained alot;how education had become value LESS even after having been to the most prestigious Universities, she was still job LESS .Just then she received a call and i noticed that she had an Iphone,a wire LESS phone. On phone was her sister who wanted to know what to buy for supper. She told her to get a pizza from the supermarket and some Del Monte pineapples for dessert, that way she said, they would just need to put the pizza in the microwave and have their diner. When she was done, she continued with her...

As long as Nature lives,Wangari will live too

Image
As long as Nature lives,Wangari Maathai will live too;because Nature was Wangari and Wangari was Nature. When girls her age were obedient enough to fetch firewood & water to contribute to their families' well being,Wangari was obedient enough to a more worthy cause; to conserve what she was supposed to be destroying:Nature.I do not want to imagine the implications of such an attitude amongst a community that believed that a woman's rightful place was in the kitchen.I don't even want to imagine the pain as she fought to preserve Karura Forest;i do not want to think of the length she went while serving her country, her constituents, her family, and the world in general.I do not want to imagine her battle with Ovarian Cancer that she succumbed to on the 25th day of September 2011. If there is one patron of sustainable development, peace and human security alongside  Bishop Desmond Tutu,it is none other than this Daughter of Africa. She founded the Green Belt Movement 30 ye...

Unfinished Businesses

Lately i have been having loads of energy;despite the fact that i stick to my routine jogging and occasional travel,i still feel a need to maximize that energy. When i was growing up,reading & writing were my great hobbies, but somewhere along the way,i abandoned them.As i grow older(and perhaps wiser)i have realized that i can ran away from the truth but not for long! So here I am,with my unfinished businesses,of writing &reading!  I hope you will enjoy reading my blog and giving me more ideas & above all,MOTIVATION. Wanja wa kAMAU

Of Sullen Faces and fake smiles

Image
Somebody once said that the world belongs to those who rise early;they get to enjoy life's great treasures such as sunrise besides being on time for their various activities.Recently i got a chance to enjoy this rare  opportunity of Sunrise reflection on Paris La Seine River.I never would dispute when they say Paris is the City of Love(Lights)or whatever people think it is,but such breathtaking scenarios are worth an eye. One would be tempted to think that with such a beautiful start of the day,Parisians are one happy people;for the 3 years that i have been here,i have adopted part of the Unique French culture.I love cheese, especially goat cheese and i now take coffee after every meal.I have also taken to the culture of faking smiles, even when am sulking at being walked on.I have also learnt to keep mum in the subway & underground in the morning.I have learnt to not even sneeze or cough;i have learnt not to attract attention of any kind;because i cannot keep up with raging in...

Words

I am one curious soul especially when it comes to words and their meanings.Words acquire meaning depending on the way we use them and how we interpret them.  Some words have historical meanings but just as  the human race, they do evolve and yes they have EVOLVED!.Take the  word SHIT for example; One story has it that Shit was an acronym during the agrarian revolution.Animal waste was used for fertilizer and was transported in the dry state by ship. If the waste got wet it would start to produce methane gas and could cause an explosion which would sink the ship. Because of its nature the waste was often shipped in bottom of the ship. To avoid the waste being placed in the bottom of the ship orders(manuals) were given to  sailors. Ship High In Transit or S.H.I.T. was printed on the containers of waste so that sailors would stow it high off the bottom decks to avoid contact with water!!! I know you had a different opinion! On this blog, its my wish to put it down,n...
